How Rema Became Famous

Rema (real name; Divine Ikubor) is a Nigerian Afro pop artiste, born and bred up in Benin, the state capital of Edo state. He was born in the year 2000 to the Ikubor family, a Christian family. He lost his father at a very tender age, and also lost his brother when he was barely 15 years old, consequently, he was forced to mature early on.

Rema became famous in 2018 after he uploaded a video clip of himself doing a freestyle rap to the instrumental of “Gucci Gang” a track released in February 2018 by the popular Mavin Records act, D'Prince featuring Davido and Don Jazzy on his instagram page.

The video went viral and took over the media space, and eventually got to D'Prince who was fascinated by the brilliant performance displayed by the lad. Just like a dream come true for Rema, he received a direct message from D’Prince himself and that was how his breakthrough story started.
D‘prince who had been looking forward to building himself a team of his own boys quickly harnessed the opportunity and in no time travelled to Benin to get the teenager.
When they got to Lagos, Rema was put in the studio with an Afrobeats producer to further showcase his talent. After the session, D’Prince took the music to his older brother and Mavin Records C.E.O, Don Jazzy who was deeply impressed by the new performance.

On March 22, 2019, Don Jazzy announced that Rema had been officially signed to Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records (also known as the Supreme Mavin Dynasty).
Rema's First EP

In the same month, Rema released his commercial debut EP named after him "Rema EP" comprised of four tracks, namely; “Iron Man”, “Why”, “Dumebi”, and “Corny”. Out of the four songs ‘Dumebi’ and ‘Iron man’ were super dope and captivating, and garnered a lot of media attention. Recently, the Barbadian singer and songwriter, Rihanna was videoed dancing to Dumebi. Aside Rihanna, Drake was also captured earlier dancing to the same track, and has also revealed he's dropping a song with the Dumebi singer, Rema anytime soon. The ‘Iron man’ track was also one of the songs captured recently on the playlist of the former US president, Barrack Obama.
Rema's Second EP

In June, 2019, Rema released his second EP named ‘Freestyle EP’ which also contains four tracks, namely; “Boulevard”, “American Love”, “Spiderman”, and “Trap Out The Submarine”.
Rema's Third EP

In September, 2019, Rema released his third EP ‘Bad Commando’ but this time, he teamed up with Caroline International (S&D), a UK-based record label. This third EP also contains four tracks, namely; “Bad Commando”, “Lady”, “Rewind”, and “Spaceship Jocelyn”.

You may want to ask these questions;

For now, the answer is “0” album or better put “none”. Rema only has three (3) EP's for now.

Unarguably, Rema is one of the fastest-growing artists in Nigeria and he's estimated to have a current net worth of 500,000 dollars (182 Million Naira).

There is currently no information on Rema's net worth on Forbes.

Has Rema Won Any Award?

Of course, Rema was nominated for the 2019 Next Rated award of The Headies and he won. He was also nominated for Viewers' Choice in the same edition. On January 12, 2020 he received the SoundCity MVP award for Best New Artist.

On February 1, 2020, it was rumoured that Rema is dead, but this was later debunked by his manager who revealed that some hackers got access to Rema's official account and were the ones behind the mischievous claim. He said Rema is hale and hearty and he's fine.
